Here’s The Fight We Picked that You Didn’t Know About

Original article from Wired

This is a really interesting article, and a highly recommended read. It really puts into perspective something that I don’t think a lot of people really know about. Huawei is starting to become a household name in the United States, but not a lot of people here own their consumer products. That’s by design, as United States policy has been aimed around keeping Huawei out over fears that their technology could be used to spy on behalf of the Chinese government. Despite that, about 40 percent of the world’s population relies on Huawei equipment.

The Trump administration recently decided to pick a fight with Huawei over this. The administration has thusly taken a lot of diplomatic measures to slow or stop as much of Huawei’s 5G rollout as possible, to varied levels of success. What’s really concerning though, is that the United States, while aiming at the same time to influence a domestic 5G rollout, is far, far behind the Chinese in this technology.

It’s an issue that’s going to affect the next administration, or at least the next four years of this one in a big way, as 5G has the potential to lead to serious advancements in technology.
